Bart., M.C., B.E. : Lieutenant, 5th Pioneer Battn. and 1st Field Coy., Engineers, A.I.F., France. Enlisting 29th March, 1915, and sailing 9th September with 1st Field Coy. Engineers, transferred in Egypt to 13th Coy. and thence to 5th Pioneer Battn. 6th March, 1916. Crossing to France, served at Fleurbaix, Somme, Ypres, Passchendaele, Messines, Somme and elsewhere till demobilisation, though slightly wounded at Hargicourt, 29th September, 1918. Promoted second-lieutenant, 26th March, and lieutenant, 16th September, 1916. Awarded M.C. 3rd September, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at All Saints'' College, Bathurst. Later at St. Paul's.
