He enlisted in the AMC in February 1918 and was later transferred to the University Company. ‘Mat’ and his motorbike joined our year in 191: we have since lost the motor-bike. His life’s work is to reduce his handicap at golf, but is quite willing to undertake any little surgical jobs in his spare time. For he maintains (with a grin) that physicians are a necessary evil.’

Med II. His surname and initials are listed in the back of the Book of Remembrance as a member of the University who joined the Company, volunteered for active service, and having been accepted for the A.I.F., was in camp at Liverpool preparatory to leaving for the Front, October 1918. Served as a private in Sea Transport Unit August - September 1918 then moved to General Service in September 1918.
