M.C., B.A., Law : Captain, 17th Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting in September, 1915, was appointed lieutenant 16th March, 1916, and, sailing with 14th reinforcements 22nd August, joined battn. on the Somme, 6th February, 1917. Served at Bullecourt, Ypres, Messines, Mont St. Quentin and Beaurevoir, being wounded at Passchendaele, 3rd November, 1917, and gassed at Montbrehain, 4th October, 1918. Promoted captain, 24th November, 1917. Awarded M.C.* and Mentioned in Despatches. Member of S.U. Scouts; second-lieutenant, A.M.F. Early education at St. Ignatius' College. * He lost two officers soon after the attack started, and also had to take over command of another company which had lost all its officers. He showed great skill in controlling these two companies.—London Gazette, 6th April, 1918.
