M.B., Ch.M.; B.Sc., D.O. (Oxon.), F.R.A.C.S. : Captain, R.A.M.C., England, Egypt and Palestine. Enlisting in King Edward's Horse at Oxford, 1909, was seconded in Egypt, 1913-14. Returning to England at the outbreak of War, was mobilised as combatant with rank of lieutenant, transferred in December to R.A.M.C. (Special Reserve) and promoted captain, 1915. Served as Eye Specialist at Aldershot till joining Mediterranean Force in late 1915 and went in same capacity to 15th and 17th General Hospitals, Alexandria. Later was attached to the parent ships of Sea Plane Service, Palestinian coast, and in 1917-18 to the Epidemic Section, D.P.H., Egypt, supervising control among the civilians, and then to Palestine till invalided out in September, 1919, returning to Australia n th November. Rhodes Scholar, 1908. Lecturer in Ophthalmology. Hon. Consulting Ophthalmic Surgeon, Women's Hospital. Early education at The King's School. Later at St. Paul's College and Balliol.
