Book of Remembrance entry
Re-enlisting 30th September, 1915, having returned from Aden in May (a possible member of nucleus for No. 3 Australian General Hospital or R.A.M.C.), sailed as M.O. A.L.H. Reinforcements 8th May, 1916, after organizing camps and other medical duties, and went to Tel-el-Kebir as R.M.O., A.L.H., proceeding to Kantara for Battle of Romani. Was recalled to accompany artillery reinforcements to France about the end of August and later served at Salisbury Plain till invalided to hospital in January, 1917. Returning to France in March, joined 9th Australian Field Ambulance early in June and was R.M.O. 34th and 26th Battns., at 3rd Canadian and 65th British Casualty Clearing Stations and R.M.O. 2nd Canadian Tunnelling Coy. Rejoining ambulance, was at Battles of Messines and Ypres till again invalided to England in November from Dickebusch. Returning to France late in December, was S.M.O. Base Camp, Havre, till June, 1918, when again invalided, and boarded for Australia, being demobilised at Randwick Hospital as permanently unfit for military service in May, 1919. Promoted major, 4th October, 1917. HH M.B., Ch.M., D.P.H.; D.M.R.E. (Camb.) : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt, England and France. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
