D.S.O., B.A. : Major, 10th Bde., A.F.A., 4th Div. Artillery H.O., and 36th Heavy Artillery Group, A.I.F., France. Enlisting as lieutenant 36th H.A.G. 21st May, 1915, and sailing 17th July, arrived in England 29th August, crossed to France 27th February, 1916, and fought at Arras, the Somme and elsewhere. Joining 10th Field Artillery Brigade 31st October, 1917, was with it at Messines, the Somme and elsewhere until 23rd June, 1918, when transferred to 4th Divisional Artillery H.Q., serving until demobilisation. Promoted captain, 10th July, 1916; major, 5th May, 1918. Awarded D.S.O. 3rd June, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches three times. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
