M.C., M.B. : Captain. A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 1st January, 1916, and sailing 1st May, served as R.M.O. 42nd Battn. during 1917-18, being then for two months M.O. n th Australian Field Ambulance till gassed and wounded at Sailly-le-Sec 25th April. Later was two months with A.F.C. at Gloucester and three months at No. 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, until, demobilisation. Immediate Award of M.C.* in May, 1918, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at The Scots College. Later at St. Andrew's. * On the morning of the 24th April, 1918, in the vicinity of Heilly, Captain Ewing George Thompson, R.M.O. (42nd Battn.), tended the wounded in the open from 4 a.m. till 1 1 p.m. During this period he was subjected to very heavy shelling from H.E. and gas, especially between the hours of 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., but he remained continuously at the Aid Post and worked with great devotion and courage throughout the day, although suffering from the effects of gas contracted almost at the commencement of the bombardment. His rapidity in evacuating the wounded from the gassed area was no doubt responsible for the preservation of many valuable lives.
