B.A. : Gunner, 114th Howitzer Battery, A.F.A., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 8th May, 1917, and sailing 6th November as corporal with reinforcements, became dangerously ill in Egypt in December, and during convalescence was offered a non-combatant position in the Palestine Expedition. Refusing this, was promoted acting sergeant to conduct a draft to England via Italy. Crossing to France 4th July, 1918, served with battery through the Big Advance until slightly wounded at Le Cateau 23rd October and evacuated to Rouen Hospital. Rejoining battery 23rd November, was demobilised in London in January, 1919, and returned in January, 1920. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
