4.8.15, Pte. inf. rfts.; sailed 18.11.15 as Bdr. 4th F.A.B.; Cpl. 1.3.16; France March 1916; Sgt. 12.7.16; won M.M. for gallantry in seeking aid for a wounded comrade, 16.8.16, under a heavy barrage, in which he was wounded; had been recommended for a commission.
On 26th August 1916 he was killed, between Albert and Pozieres, by an 8-in. shell, which demolished the whole gun-pit.
