Book of Remembrance entry

D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine. Enlisting 24th December, 1914, was R.M.O., Enoggera Camp, and, sailing in February, 1915, went to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis and Luna Park. Landing at Anzac 9th August, was attached as R.M.O. to 5th Wiltshire Regiment, going with it to Suvla Bay. Joined 2nd A.L.H. Regt. at Anzac 19th September and subsequently 3rd A.L.H. Field Ambulance. Returning to Egypt, was R.M.O. 12th A.L.H. Regt. and, on attaining majority 1st December, 1917, became second in command 2nd A.L.H.F.Amb. at Battles of Gaza I and II. Promoted lieutenant-colonel, 23rd March, 1918, and to command 4th A.L.H.F.Amb., and served till demobilisation. Awarded D.S.O. 3rd June, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. Early education at Mudgee Grammar School.
