Enlisting as major in November, 1915, and sailing in December, was appointed Crown Law Officer, Rabaul, being District Officer, Kavieng, from June to September, 1917. Later was Assistant Judge of the Central Court and finally Judge, 1918-19, till return for demobilisation. University Medallist B.A. (Philosophy) and LL.B. University, Lithgow, Cooper III and George and Matilda Harris Scholar (twice). Anderson Prizeman. Challis Lecturer, Law School, 1924-1930. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School.
