M.M., Econ. : Lieutenant, 38th and 35th Battns., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 15th November, 1915, and sailing n th May, 1916, with 9th Australian Field Ambulance, crossed with it to France in November and transferred to 35th Battn. Served through all battles till 16th October, 1917, when wounded and gassed at Passchendaele and evacuated to England. Rejoining battn. in March, 1918, fought during German Advance on Amiens and subsequent Allied Advance on the Somme, transferring to 38th Battn. on promotion to lieutenant, 6th January, 1919, and returning 25th April, 1920. Awarded M.M. 28th January, 1918. Early education at Jeppeston Grammar School, Johannesburg, and North London College, Hampstead.
