D.S.O., M.B., Ch.M. : Lieutenant-Colonel, 17th and 19th Battns., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Returning from Europe in August, 1914, served as captain A.M.F., with his old regiment at Newcastle for a time. Then transferring to A.I.F. and sailing for Egypt as captain 12th May, 1915, crossed to Anzac, where promoted major, being commanding officer at Hill 60, Karajak Dere and Quinn's Post for three months until invalided to London and later to Australia
