M.C., B.E., A.M.I.E.Aust., Diploma in Military Science: Captain, 2nd Australian Tunnelling Coy., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st July, 1915, and sailing with Mining Corps 20th February, 1916, was mining near Armentieres and Ypres, where wounded 10th February, 1917, on machine gun emplacements, underground communications and dugouts in sand on Belgian coast and later in chalk on the Somme. After the German Retreat followed up Infantry, locating and removing delay action mines, and was also engaged in road and bridge building and other works, serving until demobilisation. Promoted second-lieutenant, 24th September, 1915; lieutenant, 15th June, 1916, and captain, 24th November. Awarded M.C. 3rd June, 1919, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
