M.M., Law : Lieutenant, 45th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 25th October, 1914, and sailing 22nd December, fought at the Anzac Landing and the Evacuation, although wounded, 3rd May, 1915. Crossing to France, served at Pozieres, Ypres, Bullecourt, Messines, Dernancourt, Villers-Bretonneux and until demobilisation. Promoted corporal and sergeant; second-lieutenant, 3rd November, 19 17; lieutenant, 12th April, 1918. Awarded M.M. for work at Messines. Early education at Christian Brothers' High School, Lewisham.
