M.C., B.E., A.M.I.E.Aust. : Lieutenant, 8th Field Coy. and 15th Divisional Engineers, A.I.F., France. Enlisting in September, 1915, in Infantry and sailing 1st April, 1916, as second-lieutenant in charge of reinforcements, joined coy. in the Line 20th July and served continuously until January, 1918. Then appointed Adjutant to C.R.E., 5th Division Engineers H.Q., remaining there until demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant, 1st November, 1916. Awarded M.C. at Polygon Wood in October, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at Technical College.
