C.M.G., C.B.E., M.B., Ch.M.; D.P.H. (Camb.) : Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt, England and France. Enlisting as Major, 1st Australian Field Ambulance 28th August, 1914, and sailing 18th October, served at the Anzac Landing and later on transport duty with wounded to Alexandria, returning to Peninsula 8th May as M.O. Anzac Beach area. On 21st July appointed D.A.D.M.S. 2nd Division to organize it in Egypt and in September was torpedoed on troopship Southland while taking it to Anzac, where he remained until the Evacuation. From January to May, 1916, was A.D.M.S., Cairo, and, crossing to London 22nd May, A.D.M.S., Australian Imperial Military Depots, U.K., from 6th July. Was temporarily in command of No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen, in January, 1917, and appointed D.D.M.S., A.I.F. in England 20th February, later serving at 1st Anzac H.Q. in France and Medical Section of Administrative H.Q., London, returning to Australia as O.C. hospital ship Karoola in January, 1918. Re-embarking 30th April, was at Admin. H.Q., London, for five months and in France from November to January, 1919, returning in January, 1920. Promoted lieutenant-colonel, 26th July, 1915; temporary colonel, 6th July, 1916; colonel, 20th February, 1917. Superintendent, Coast Hospital, 1908-23; Consulting Physician, I 934-- Early education at Newcastle Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
