E D Meldrum was in the forefront of the Gallipoli landing at Anzac Cove and although he survived the landing, stayed on to fight at Anzac for nearly 3 months following the landing. Many of his close mates dies as a result of the fighting here and he doubtless was witness to many horrifiying scenarios. These events very likely played a part in his committing suicide at age 30 on 8 April, 1922.
