Enlisting 6th December, 1916, with Pioneers and sailing in January, 1917, transferred to 18th Battn. in England and, crossing to France in October, 1917, served with battn. at Passchendaele, Messines, Villers-Bretonneux, the Somme and elsewhere until demobilisation. Early education at Grafton Public School.
