Book of Remembrance entry

B.A. : Private, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 2nd September, 1915, and sailing 29th March, 1916, on hospital ship Kanowna to Egypt, joined 8th Australian Field Ambulance at Estaires (via England) 16th August and remained with it until demobilisation, serving as stretcher bearer at Armentieres, Bapaume, Bullecourt and Ypres, being gassed at Polygon Wood 29th September, 1917. On recovery in November was at Messines, Amiens, Villers-Bretonneux and Bellicourt till September, 1918, although gassed at Villers-Bretonneux 30th April. Was invalided to No. 3 Australian General Hospital, Abbeville, in November, rejoining unit at Christmas and doing hospital duty at Sars-Poteries and Erquilines for three months. Early education in Glasgow and at Mosman and Annandale Public Schools. Later at St. Andrew's College.
