In 1920, Mr Magarey presented a paper at the Hill Agricultural Conference "Grading and Packing Fruits". He lived in Blackwood until 1920 when he bought a property at Berri. He actively participated at Agricultural society meetings and presented papers, he took part in several pruning competitions at Berri, at times pitting himself against his old classmate Mr Bottrill. In 1934, he returned to Blackwood.
