His name appears in the 1939 Book of Remembrance in the Home and Munitions Service as a Censor of the Military Intelligence Corps."The final duties of Censorship were assigned to Mr M.L MacCallum, a graduate in Arts of Sydney, and a Rhodes Scholar and graduate of Oxford, also a barrister-at-Law, who had been one of the Chief Assistant Censors throughout the period of hostilities."
