Book of Remembrance entry
Econ. : Lieutenant, 5th Machine Gun and 22nd Battns., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 4th April, 1916, and sailing 2nd May, joined 6th M.G. Coy. in Belgium in August. Transferring to 22nd Battn., fought east of Ypres and at Flers, where wounded n th November and evacuated to No. 3 Australian General Hospital, Brighton. In December went to 25th M.G. Coy. as corporal and, crossing to France, was promoted sergeant in 1917 and sent to Officers Cadet Battn. in 1918, being commissioned 2nd May. Returning to France, was appointed to 5th M.G. Battn. in June, serving with it until May, 1919, and then on administrative work in A.I.F. Depots, United Kingdom, until December, returning 2nd February, 1920. Early education at Sydney High School.
