Book of Remembrance entry
Pharmacy : Sapper, 33rd Battn. and 3rd Division Signal Coy., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 1st June, 1916, when under 17, and sailing 24th January, 1917, as acting-corporal, became acting sergeant but joined battn. at Armentieres (Square Farm) as temporary-corporal. Was in charge of 9th Brigade signals on silent raid at Ploegsteert and St. Ives in February, 1918, and again with signals at Villers-Bretonneux and the Somme till severely gassed 18th April and invalided to England. On recovery transferred to 3rd Division Signal Coy. in France, serving until demobilisation. A.M.F. : Captain, 1st January, 1924. Early education at Cleveland St. Intermediate High School.
