Book of Remembrance entry
Eng, : Captain, 4th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France; also A.N. and M.E.F., New Guinea. Enlisting n th August, 1914, and sailing on 17th, served in New Guinea, where promoted corporal, and returned in February, 1915. Commissioned in A.I.F. 6th July, fought at Gallipoli until the Evacuation and, crossing to France in March, 1916, at Fleurbaix and the Somme till wounded at Pozieres 24th July. On recovery rejoined battn. and remained with it until May, 1917, when invalided to hospital and Australia, arriving in October. Promoted captain, 8th May, 1916. Awarded Medaille d'Honneur (en vermeille). Remobilised with Censorship Department in 1918. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School. Later at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston). Note.
