Book of Remembrance entry

M.B., Ch.M. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt and France; also Pacific Ocean Expeditionary Force. Mobilised 4th August, 1914, and sent on 6th to Thursday Island, where he volunteered and sailed on 16th for Port Moresby in medical charge of Pacific Ocean Expeditionary Force, remaining there until 7th September, when merged with A.N. and M.E.F. for New Guinea, returning to Australia, however, on account of trouble with ship's stokers. Upon arrival, joined No. 1 Australian General Hospital and, sailing 19th October, remained with it as X Ray Specialist at Heliopolis and until arrival at Rouen 30th March, 1916. Joining 8th Australian Field Ambulance during the Somme Battle, was appointed R.M.O. 5th Pioneer Battn. 31st July, serving till 1st September, when invalided to England and Australia, arriving 2nd January, 1917. Promoted major, 6th February, 1916. Early education at Sydney High School.
