Book of Remembrance entry

M.B., Ch.M., F.R.C.S., F.R.A.C.S. : Lieutenant-Colonel, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and France. Enlisting in October, 1914, and sailing 29th May, 1915, with 5th Australian Field Ambulance, arrived at Gallipoli in August but was invalided 3rd October to hospital at Malta. On recovery sent to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, as pathologist 18th December, crossing with it to France 30th March. Was R.M.O. 22nd Battn. from 15th August to 24th November, when promoted major, returning to No. 1 A.G.H., Rouen. Joining 8th A.F.Amb. near Ypres 19th September, 1917, transferred to 15th on 2nd October and served with bearers in the forward evacuating areas. Appointed Acting D.A.D.M.S. 5th Division in Ypres sector 9th December and D.A.D.M.S. in Somme area on 3rd April, 1918. On 8th November appointed temporary C.O. 12th A.F.Amb. and 6th December C.O. 4th, serving till unit demobilised. Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Brisbane Grammar School.
