Joining the Navy in 1912, served afloat during the whole period of War in Pacific, China Sea, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean, mostly in H.M.A. Torpedo Boat Destroyer Flotilla and in Australia, Huon and other ships. Engineer-Commander (retired), R.A.N., 1933. Early education at Sydney Grammar School. Later at St. Paul's College.
