Book of Remembrance entry
B.A.; B.A., LL.B. (Camb.) : Captain, East Yorkshire Regiment, B.E.F., Gallipoli, England and France. Sailing to England privately 1st August to enter Cambridge University, enlisted there in October, 1914, joined Officers Training Corps and was commissioned to 9th Battn., East Yorks. Regiment, 24th November. In June, 1915, took to Gallipoli a draft of Dragoons and Inniskillen Fusiliers which was attached to 6th Battn. Royal Irish Fusiliers at Cape Helles and later at Suvla Bay. Wounded at Chocolate Hill 21st August, and evacuated to hospital in England and thence to Australia. Sailing again in February, 1916, was attached to 6th Officers Cadet Battn., Balliol College, Oxford, as Officer Instructor for ten months and in March, 1917, joined 12th Battn. East Yorks. Regiment in France. Was wounded in April, 1918, near Doulieu, R. Lys. and returned to Australia on demobilisation. Promoted lieutenant, 15th January, 1915; captain, 12th December, 19 16; acting major, 19th October, 1917, till 9th February, 1918, while second in command, commanding battn. in the field. Member of Gray's Inn, Inns of Court, London. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School. Later at Queen's College, Cambridge.
