Book of Remembrance entry
B.A. : Chaplain, A.I.F., England and France. Enlisting in June, 1916, and sailing 1st July, was with 9th and 12th Training Battns. at Rollestone and 12th at Codford. Crossing to France 29th December, was with 1st Divisional Base at Etaples till March, 1917, and then attached to 20th Battn. As padre was in charge of Comforts Fund Cocoa Stall on Menin Road hard by Field Hospital nearest to Hell Fire Corner. Served at Lagnicourt, Bullecourt, Passchendaele and Zonnebeke, where slightly wounded by shellburst 20th August, 1917, then at Ploegsteert, whence invaldied to England in March, 1918. On recovery attached to 9th Training Battn., Fovant, returning to Australia in August, 1918. Early education at St. Mary's Public and Sydney High Schools.
