Furthermore
Rev A.W. Gordon was a clergyman prior to enlisting in the first world war. During the war he held a unique position where eventhough he was a clergyman and a chaplain, he served in the battlezone as a private. In 1918, he was wounded in action and returned to Australia. He resumed his study at the University of Adelaide in 1919, and again from 1936-1941. Throughout his career as a minister of the Congregational Church, he preached in many rural and regional churches, including Renmark, Strathalbyn, Victor Harbour, Houghton, Victoria and Tasmania. In the mid 1920s, he was also involved in farming.
