D.S.O., V.D., B.A., LL.B., M.B., Ch.M., Diploma in Military Science: Lieutenant-Colonel, 46th Battn., A.I.F., France and England. Enlisting 5th August, 1915, and sailing 5th November as major and O.C. Troops "Katuna ", transferred in March, 1916, to 46th Battn. on formation at Tel-el-Kebir as second in command. Crossing to France in June, was promoted lieutenant-colonel to command battn. 2nd December and served at Pozieres, Flers, Bullecourt, Messines, Ypres and elsewhere. On 14th February, 1918, appointed to command 12th Training Battn., Salisbury Plain, returning 5th July. Awarded D.S.O. 3rd June, 1917, and Mentioned in Despatches twice. An original member of S.U. Scouts, 1901; second-lieutenant, 1905; major, 19 13—O.C. till 1915 and, after the War, till 1921 (then S.U. Regt.). Early education at Ashfield Grammar School.
