B.A. : Lieutenant, 6th Battn., East Lancashire Regiment, Gallipoli. Enlisting in England in August, 1914, was commissioned and, sailing with regiment to Gallipoli in June, 1915, served till death. Mentioned in Despatches for "Gallant and distinguished service in the Field "as Acting Company Commander. Killed in Action, Chunuk Bair, 9th August, 1915, while leading the charge on 709 Metre Hill. Commemorated in Helles Memorial. Early education at Cathedral Choir and The King''s Schools. Later at London School of Economics—Gladstone Prizeman. "He . . . led and handled his men in a superb manner . . . and no more gallant man died than young Debenham."—Major McCormick.
