M.C., B.E. : Captain, 2nd Battn. York and Lancaster Regt., B.E.F., France. Enlisting in London in May, 1915, was commissioned 6th October and, crossing to France in December, was wounded in June and September, 1917, but served until the Armistice and returned to Australia in December, 1918. Promoted lieutenant, 2nd September, 19 16; captain, 17th March, 1917. Awarded M.C. and Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Cooerwull Academy and Sydney Grammar School.
