Book of Remembrance entry
Enlisting 5th January, 1916, and sailing in charge of Infantry reinforcements in October, transferred to M.G. School, Grantham, and passed with distinction. Crossing to France 21st April, 1917, joined 4th M.G. Coy. and served at Messines and Ypres till death. Promoted lieutenant 30th August, for services at Messines. Died of Wounds, Zonnebeke, 26th September, 1917, and was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinghe. Early education at Fort St. High and Sydney Grammar Schools. He was the best officer in my company. He was liked by his boys who thought him a good officer and a gentleman. He was also a very clever and enthusiastic machine gun officer.—Captain Langhorne, O.C.
