Med. II : Major, 6th A.L.H. Regt., A.I.F., Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine. Enlisting 22nd October, 1914, and sailing in December, served on the Peninsula from May, 1915, till the Evacuation and there promoted lance-corporal, second-lieutenant and lieutenant. Then fought in Sinai, Palestine and Syria until the Armistice at Romani, Gaza, Amman, Es Salt and elsewhere. Was second in command C Squadron 6th A.L.H. Regt. from 21st February, 1918, staff trainee 2nd L.H. Brigade 4th March, and temporary C.O. 6th A.L.H. Regt. 9th May. Promoted captain, 17th September, 19 16; temporary major, 9th May, 1918; major, 21st February, 1919. Mentioned in Despatches. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
