Arts I (e) : Lance-Corporal, 53rd Battn., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 21st February, 1916, and sailing with 2nd Reinforcements, joined battn. 22nd July, and fought at Fleurbaix, the Somme and elsewhere till wounded 12th March, 1917. Rejoining battn., served at Ypres and Villers-Bretonneux till taken prisoner of war, 9th April, 1918. Repatriated to England, returning to Australia 1st April, 1919.
