Book of Remembrance entry
Econ. : Private, A.A.M.C. and A.A.S.C., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 2nd May, 1915, and sailing on 31st, landed in Gallipoli, 22nd August, and took part as stretcher-bearer 5th Australian Field Ambulance in Battle of Knoll 60, being invalided to Malta, 17th September, and thence to Fulham Military Hospital, London. Rejoining unit shortly after its arrival in France, served at Messines and the Somme till wounded at Pozieres, 26th July, 1916. Transferred to A.A.S.C. in 1917, remaining with it until demobilisation. Early education at Cleveland St. Intermediate High School.
