Book of Remembrance entry
Eng. II : Lieutenant, 1st and 55th Battns., A.I.F., France. Enlisting 27th September, 1915, and sailing 8th March, 1916, joined Lewis Machine Gun Section 55th Battn. in Egypt and, crossing to France 8th June, fought at Fleurbaix and elsewhere. Selected for Officers Training Corps, Oxford, in September, commissioned 28th October, and transferred to A Coy. 1st Battn., returning to France on 8th December. When patrolling in January, 1918, was cut off and remained behind German Lines for 3 days, but finally regaining his own lines, was invalided to England. While in hospital received letter of congratulation from General Birdwood for the wonderful fortitude and gallantry displayed . Upon recovery returned to France, serving till death. Killed in Action, Herbecourt, 18th September, 1918, and buried at Roisel Communal Cemetery Extension. Early education at Sydney Grammar School.
