M.M., Union Steward: Sergeant, Royal Scots Fusiliers, B.E.F., France and Salonika. Enlisting at Glasgow 9th September, 1914, when 16, was promoted after three months'' service to be acting sergeant, and crossed to France in September, 1915. After six months on the Somme, was over two years in Salonika where he was twice wounded in 1917—at Lake Doiran and Grand Couronne. Was then nine months at Cadet School in England until the Armistice, later coming to Australia. In 1917 awarded M.M. and recommended for a Commission. Education at Overnewton Public School, Glasgow.
