Aug. 1914, Pte. 2nd Fld. Amb.; sailed 18.10. 14; Egypt Dec. 1914; recommended for commission in Imperial Army, and in July 1915 joined 2nd Royal Fusiliers, 86th Bde., 29th Div.; Suvla Bay 24. 8. 15; evacuated to hospital 18.9.15; to France 9.6.16; wounded at Beaumont Hamel 30.6.16; to 4th Royal Fusiliers in France 19.9.16; Capt. 24.12.16. Despatches 4.1.17; recommended for M.C. March 1917 and for D.S.O. 9.4.17. On 13th April 1917 he was mortally wounded at Guemappe, and died in hospital at Camieres on 16th April 1917, and was buried at Etaples. Mentioned in Despatches 14th December 1917.
