M.C.E.G.S.; Trinity; B.C.E.; 1st class in Chemistry and exhibition in Surveying 1905; College crew; 2/Lt. Aust. Engrs. 1909; Lieut. Royal Aust. Engrs. 1909. Some time commanding Submarine Mining Station, Swan Island; with Mawson's Antarctic Expedition 1911 as Astronomer, Assistant Magnetician, and Recorder of Tides; one of six volunteers for the relief party that stayed a second winter, and leader of the southern sledge party; on return attached Engrs. Staff office, Melbourne; awarded King's Polar Medal.
25.8.14, Capt., 2nd in command 3rd F.C.E.; sailed 22.9.14; at Gallipoli landing 25.4.15. Killed in action on Gallipoli 7th May 1915.
