Book of Remembrance entry
M.B., Ch.M., F.R.A.C.S. : Major, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., Egypt and Gallipoli. Enlisting 20th August, 1914, transferred from 8th to 1st Australian Field Ambulance and, sailing 19th October as S.M.O. troopship Argyllshire , served at Mena Camp and the Anzac Landing, transporting wounded on troopships till 11th August, 1915. Was appointed Sanitary Officer and Acting D.A.D.M.S., 1st Division, with promotion to major, returning to No. 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, and thence to Australia as M.O., hospital ship Karoola , in December. Demobilised in April, 1916, after reporting on military hospitals in Australia, and placed in command of 8th Field Ambulance (Home Service). Lecturer in Clinical Surgery. Early education at The Scots College. Later at St. Andrew''s.
