Book of Remembrance entry
Arts I (e) : Lieutenant, 111th Howitzer Battery, A.I.F., France. Enlisting in September, 1915, and sailing 23rd October, was commissioned in Egypt in March, 1916. Crossing to France, served at the Somme, Bullecourt, Messines, Bapaume and till death. Killed in Action, Bailleul, 2nd September, 1917, and buried in Communal Cemetery Extension, Bailleul. Early education at Bowral District School. A gallant officer and fine soldier.He had gained the utmost respect . . . by his extreme devotion to duty. His interest and care for his own section had become a byword . . . so much so that they were commonly referred to as ‘‘Asher's Babes"
