Book of Remembrance entry
B.E. : Major, R.E., B.E.F., France. Was in Kimberley, South Africa, as Underground Manager in De Beer''s Mines when War broke out. Returning to England was, on enlistment, appointed captain, 23rd October, 1914, and, crossing to France, served till death. Promoted major, 1st November, 1915. Killed in Action, the Somme, 5th July, 1916, and buried in Fricourt British Cemetery (Bray Road). Second-lieutenant, Irish Rifles, N.S.W., 1900. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
