Book of Remembrance entry
O.B.E., B.Sc., Eng. II : Major, 19th Battn., A.I.F., Gallipoli and France. Enlisting 5th May, 1915, as second-lieutenant 19th Battn. and sailing 25th June, fought at Gallipoli till wounded 31st August and evacuated to hospital, and again on recovery from 14th October until the Evacuation. Crossing to France in March, served at Fleurbaix, Pozieres, Ypres and Flers, where wounded 14th November. On recovery, attended Staff Course, Cambridge, in January''and February, 1917, and was seconded as Staff Trainee, 1st Anzac H.Q., 24th February. Appointed Staff Captain, Q , Australian Corps H.Q., 21st March, 1918, and D.A.O.M.G. (temporary major), 1st January, 1919. Demobilised in London and entered Birmingham University in October. Promoted lieutenant, 16th July, 1915; captain, 25th July, 1916; temporary major, 1st January, 1919. Early education at Sydney Church of England Grammar School. Later at St. Andrew''s College.
