Citation or description	"Is brought to notice for fine leadership and gallantry during operations against VAIRS (?) and HAHBL (?) Woods, East of CORRIE (?) on the morning of the 4th July 1918. During the advance his platoon was held up by an enemy machine gun firing from the left flank. By skillful maneuvering he led a small party rushed the machine gun; killed its crew and captured the gun. His leadership and gallantry on this occasion undoubtedly saved many casualties, and he is strongly recommended for distinction" https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/R1591965/
